RAF Modified Flap Mae West to a Spitfire Pilot
A good displayable 1941 dated modified Flap Type RAF Life Vest (Mae West)
Presenting good research possibilities through the named label the Mae West is in generally good condition but with one hole approximately 4cms x 3 cms on the lower right lobe where the cloth is missing and a tear to the neck lobe where the cloth is present. There are perhaps two further holes of no more that 5mm.
As with virtually all Flap Type Mae Wests, this example has been modified by the removal of the flap itself and is an early modification where a ripper bag for the die marker has been fitted. None of the later modifications have been added.
The label is clear and named to F/O Bowman of 401 Squadron, a Spitfire Squadron.
The stole (bladder) remains in place but this is in relic condition, minus the air bottle and will not inflate. The tube however sits well for display and the neck zip works well.
