Kriegsmarine Sailor's Cap - Matrosenmutze

Although now somewhat dusty and dirty from storage this Kriegsmarine Sailorís Cap ( Matrosenmutze) is in general very good condition with close inspection revealing just two small moth nips just visible in the pictures above the e and g on the Kriegsmarine ribbon. The headband itself is distorted, again from storage, but this comes back to shape when displayed on a head.
A large size 59 Ĺ, the cap is an issue rather than private purchase example with the detachable cover showing the depot marking BAW (Bekleidungsamt Wilhelmshaven) and the date 15.2.37. It appears the original owner, one Heinrich Garlen, was very concerned about losing his cap and has named it profusely. There is one name tape stitched to the detachable cover and one the front stiffener. In addition he has ink stamped the sweat band with his name and address.
The original two part insignia is in place with gold eagle sitting above the rosette.
A very good cap with research potential
