1943 Dated British Airborne HSAT Mk11 With Camoufl

An extremely interesting and quite possible unique 1943 dated British Airborne Helmet (Helmet, Steel, Airborne Troops Mk11)
Having been in my own collection for some years, this helmet was always of special interest by virtue of the field applied sacking camouflage covering to the shell. Perhaps initially held in place by the application of some sort of adhesive, the liner was removed to allow the material to be folded inside prior to the liner being replaced, securing the covering firmly in place. Once in situ a rough application of green and brown paint was applied to the covering.
Inside, the sorbo rubber padding remains soft and without loss whilst the leather sweatband displays clear stampings to BMB along with the large size 7 5/8 and the date, 1943. This date represents the changeover from the leather harness to the improved webbing arrangement with 43 dated examples being far rarer than those dated 44. 1943 dated Helmets are known to have been used at Arnhem.
The webbing strap is a very good wartime example and the suspension harness, drawstring and bump pad are all very good.
An impressive and totally original helmet in a good large size.
