German "Coconut" Canteen. 1941 Dated

A very good example of the so called coconut canteen, originally designed for use in tropical climates. Made from aluminium, wood and resin was then overlaid with a process of heating and pressure which gave exceptional thermal qualities along with a damage resistant finish.
Dated 1941, this particular canteen probably saw service in the Afrika Korps and is in overall very good condition. The body, cup and stopper are without damage and the cotton canvas straps are also very good. The only points of note are some stains to the straps and the bottom stud on the strap which has pulled through the leather. Strap end tab is marked LUX.
